On Saturday November 21st, My squad and I woke up early in the morning to say “see you soon” to each other as we all headed our separate ways for Thanksgiving. We were supposed to be home until November 30th and then go live in Gainesville together for two more weeks until Christmas break. Little did we know that any expectations we may have held of what that was going to look like would change.

A few days into being home, we found out that a few people on my squad had COVID and fear, frustration and confusion settled in on us. As the week went on more and more people kept getting sick. I have luckily tested negative, but the majority of my squad wasn’t so lucky. Because of the COVID outbreak, for our safety the leadership team at Adventures in Missions decided it would be best to finish the last two weeks virtually and return in January when we launch to Costa Rica.

Although this is the best option to keep us safe and healthy, its also a really difficult decision for all Gap Year racers to come to terms with. We have lived together and done life together for 2 1/2 months. D squad is my family and closing the door on this season of living in Gainesville early is really hard. But i know that my Father is working all things for good and for his glory. So instead of walking in confusion in this longer season at home, i choose to live in anticipation of what the Lord is doing here where he has placed me for the time being.

If you could be praying for all Gap Year Racers hearts and specifically me and my squad as we process how these next 6 weeks look different than we thought. Also be praying for a covering of safety and health over all of us as we prepare for January. THANK YOU!
